What a laugh! Someone who thinks that FCC has made our lives better from telemarketers! - http://blog.angrypets.com/2006/05/fccs_do_not_cal.html http://www.typepad.com/t/trackback/540011/4965025

I find more and more telemarketers calling all the time. When I try to share with them why their call is against the rules, they love to argue with me about which supposed exception they are falling under in the telemarketing sales rules. I had a guy the other day tell me that because I bought his company's product 5 years ago, he can continue to call me as much as he wents despite my asking him to stop calling me. What kind of salesman things it is in his best interests to continue wasting time with someone who is getting fed up by him. Maybe he thinks I'm an eskimo in need of an air conditioner and he's the guy who could sell it to me.

The new FCC give consumers no right of action against errant telemarketers, unless you can prove over $50,000 in damages. What a farce!

Here are just some of the ways that telemarketers continue to break the rules:

  • No caller ID on their phone call
  • Misleading caller ID on their phone call
  • Calling before 8:00am
  • Calling you with automatic dialers when there is no human present on their end to take the call if you answer it
  • "This is an important announcement, press 1 to talk to our operator about blah-blah" getting you in touch with someone who claims you called them because you pressed 1.
  • Ditto the above, the operator claims they have no idea who runs the dialer, you pressed one to talk to them.
  • Not bothering to take you off their list, or letting yet another telemarketing company call you for their offers
  • Refusing to identify themselves when you ask for the info
Call the FCC to complain, and they do nothing other than just log statistical information on how many complaints they've received.
