Fort Bragg Barracks Should Be Condemned Says Father of A Soldier
"This is embarrassing. It's disgusting. It makes me mad as hell," Ed Frawley said of the building where his son, Sgt. Jeff Frawley, had to live upon his return this month from a 15-month deployment to Afghanistan.
The 10 minute video shows a building falling apart, filled with mold, rust, lead based paint, missing ceiling tiles, and broken drain pipes bringing sewer gas into the building.
Soldiers were treated to 3 inches of sewage water after the toilets overflowed.
According to Ed Frawley, "sewage water backs up into the sinks in the lower floors of these barracks," Frawley said in his narration. "The soldiers have to tell one another who's taking a shower when they turn the sinks on, or the person taking the shower gets scalded with hot water."

- I am not surprised by this at all. My son is stationed at Ft. Drum Ny and I spoke with him this weekend. He was very busy cleaning as were almost all on post. It seems there is a soldier in the 82nd airborne up there who complained to his Father about the same type of conditions. The only difference here is that his Father happens to be a one star General. This makes me sick to see what these brave young men and women have to come home to after signing on to put their lives on the line for this government. This kinda crap has got to STOP
We need change and next election is not soon enough !
- looks like some of the dorms at oklahoma state ! yes, its appalling, but i think the father is wrong when he says the barracks would be condemned in the civilian world...what p-isses me off is that the repugs claim they are supporting the troops by giving them the equipment they need - this is simply not the case. my uncle recently received a survey from the repug party, one of the questions asked if the repugs should keep fighting the dems for funding to "properly equip and take care of the troops" i just thought wow, what a bunch of bee ess...the troops aren't getting what they need when they are over there, nor are they getting what they need when they come home...truly a travesty.
- 1st, let me say that I am mad as hell that this father gave sensitive information over the internet that could possibly put other people in terrible danger. I huess he didn't think that our "enemies" use the internet...The danger that he speaks about from the barracks, I agree are bad living conditions. The 2nd thing is that, I guess the soldiers in this company don't have any pride in where they live. I know that, at least in the Marine Corp, the men and woman who live in the barracks have a thing called "field day". That means that they spend the day cleaning, painting and beautifing "thier" home. I guess the Army doesnt't have this same thinking. I know that barracks all over the world are old, but that doesn't mean that they are unlivable. Had these men helped to take care of thier home, maybe it wouldn't have gotten this bad. These problems didn't just happen, they were created over a long period of time. TIme that these men lived there.
- Crap! I mustered out in 1968 from Ft. Bragg and they were replacing WW11 barracks back then! Now then the permanent party people knew these soldiers were returning from the war, why weren't the barracks in order when they got back? Yes we had field days when I was in service and we maintained our buildings but it was contractors /civilians that did the painting and plumbing andsuch. Here is a bit of trivia. I was at Ft. Gordon Ga. in winter of 1966 in February. There were 1500 men in a training company run by a First Lieutenant. Sneeze sheets/ponchos strung up to prevent the spread of meningitis. A hundred men in barracks built for 55 men and 32 men in tents designed for 16 men. Every other window nailed open the width of a piece of 2x4 for ventilation and it got 4 below zero!
- Maybe, we should lay some of the blame for these conditions, on the men whom live there. I know plenty of people who live in old barracks and take pride in where they live. My son is a Marine and he has lived in barracks much old then 50 years. I have always found the barracks to be clean and taken care of. I have seen how our men and woman live in a time of war and I have seen what they come home to... Although, these pics were awful, I think that some of the blame is misguided. The Army gets far more money from Congress then any other branch of the military and should make the tools available for care and unkeep of all buildings, not just the barracks. Back to my 1st point...
- Mr Frawley, you should applogize to all the military and their families, who's lives you put in harms way by giving locations of military posts in Afghanistan, to the world. This action on your part is far more dangerous then the pics that you felt so compelled to share with the world about the barracks.
